Jerry Perales

Jerry Perales is currently in his twelfth year as the Amarillo Youth Choirs’ Artistic Director.  Mr. Perales spent thirty years as a music educator in Corpus Christi, Azle, and Canyon, Texas teaching at the junior and senior high levels.  He continues to be an active senior and junior high choral clinician throughout the state.  In addition, he has served as the Director of Music Ministries at Polk St. United Methodist Church, St. Stephen United Methodist Church, and First United Methodist Church in Dumas, Texas as well as various other churches throughout the state of Texas.  Mr. Perales received his Bachelor of Music Education from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas.  His choral studies include work with Mr. Ron Shirey, Dr. Bev Henson, Dr. Laura Hoggard, and Lois Land.  He also has worked with the late Robert Shaw, Paul Salomonovich, and numerous other noted choral legends.

            Mr. Perales has performed as a guest soloist throughout the state as a tenor and counter-tenor.  His operatic roles include the Caliph in Kismet, Nanki-Poo in The Mikado, Little Bat in Susannah, and Smileyin The Jumping Frog of Calaveras County.  He has performed in numerous Broadway productions but his favorite is the role of Tony in Westside Story. Mr. Perales has also been seen on the stage of Amarillo Little Theatre as Gerard Carriere in Phantom, for which he was awarded two ALTAs.   He has performed with regional theatres and professional choruses in Amarillo, Corpus Christi, with the Dallas Symphony Chorus, and with the West Virginia Opera Company.  He was the Music Director of TEXAS for seven years where he met his wife, Katrina.  They have three “children” who bring wonderful joy to their lives:  Eraser, Kata, and Pitti-Sing, all loving cats.
